Packing, Loading & Service Tips
Practical advice for organizing, packing, and preparing so your crew can work efficiently.
Packing Tips
- Use sturdy boxes — don't overload; keep boxes under 50 lbs
- Label every box on at least two sides with contents and destination room
- Pack heavy items (books, tools) in small boxes; light items in larger boxes
- Use packing paper, not newspaper, for fragile items — ink can transfer
- Take photos of electronics wiring before disconnecting
- Pack a 'first-night' box with essentials: toiletries, chargers, change of clothes
Fragile Item Handling
- Double-box extremely fragile items with padding between boxes
- Use dish-pack cell kits for glassware and dishes
- Wrap art and mirrors in blanket-wrap — never lay flat in a box
- Mark fragile boxes clearly on all sides
- Remove lamp shades and pack separately; wrap lamp bases
- Disassemble what you can — leave assembly hardware in labeled bags
Loading & Space Tips
- Load heavy items first and low — sofas, appliances, heavy boxes on the bottom
- Fill gaps with soft items — pillows, blankets, and linens make great void fill
- Use vertical space — stack boxes by weight, heaviest at the bottom
- Secure loads with straps — prevent shifting during container or unit loading
- Create an aisle in storage units so you can access items without unpacking everything
Working Efficiently with Crews
- Have a clear plan before the crew arrives — know what goes where
- Stay available for questions — the crew works faster with clear direction
- Don't start heavy lifting yourself — let the professionals handle it
- Point out priority items and fragile pieces during the walkthrough
- If you're packing alongside the crew, work one room at a time so they can load completed rooms
